I was never taught to care for my own body. I’ve never known guilt for myself. My skin distrusts me. I love the feeling of touch from another. Never myself, because I’ve never upheld the responsibility of having a body.

I made this photo series to embody a lack of autonomy instilled after several years in religious institutions. Teachings dissected the body as disposable, existing solely to serve others— especially women. In today’s society, the act of women exhibiting, nurturing, and valuing their own body is looked up as self-centered, sexual, and attention seeking.
Take back your body.
